The Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc is the world championship of trail running: 171 kilometres and 10,000 metres of climbing in a single loop around the Mont Blanc massif, crossing France, Italy and Switzerland before the finish arch in Chamonix. Col de la Seigne, Grand Col Ferret, the night climb to Champex — every section is legend to the 2,300 who start and the thousands more chasing qualifying stones for the ballot.
