About This Route

The road from Badwater Basin to Lone Pine is the most extreme stretch of tarmac in American ultrarunning: starting 85 metres below sea level at the lowest point in North America, crossing Death Valley in July heat that melts shoe soles, and climbing over 3,200 metres across three mountain ranges toward the Sierra Nevada.

Our 3D printed terrain model renders that brutal profile in relief — the sink of the valley floor, the passes at Towne, Father Crowley and beyond — with the route traced across it. Few landscapes tell a running story this clearly just from their shape.
