Cheddar Gorge

Cheddar Gorge is the most spectacular road in the South West: Britain's biggest gorge, with 450-foot limestone cliffs crowding the road as it snakes up through the bends out of Cheddar village onto the Mendip plateau. The climb itself is a gem — steep through the lower hairpins beneath the crags, then easing as the gorge opens out — and it's the region's most-ridden ascent by far.
