About This Route

No mountain has shaped the Tour de France like the Col du Tourmalet — climbed by the race more than any other since Octave Lapize first crossed it in 1910 and spat 'assassins' at the organisers. From Luz-Saint-Sauveur it is 19 kilometres at 7.4%, through Barèges and the ski station's bare upper ramps to the col at 2,115 metres, where Le Géant's silver statue watches the road.

It's the centrepiece of a Pyrenean pilgrimage and the crux of the Étape whenever the race comes west. Our 3D printed terrain model captures the whole valley system in relief with the road traced to the pass.
